The PSC SLE is a standardized test used by the Canadian federal public service to assess bilingualism in English and French. It includes three components: reading comprehension, written expression, and the Oral Language Assessment (OLA). Results are graded A, B, or C.
The OLA is the spoken French component of the PSC SLE. Candidates are assessed on their ability to communicate in French through a structured oral interaction with a trained evaluator. Results are graded A (basic), B (intermediate), or C (advanced). Many bilingual positions in the federal public service require at least a B or C level.
